MY JOURNEY INTO HIKING
Before moving to Tromsø, hiking wasn’t a big part of my life. But once I arrived in Norway, everything changed. The stunning natural beauty of Tromsø, with its towering mountains and breathtaking landscapes, inspired me to take up hiking—and now, it’s one of my favorite hobbies.
Since then, hiking has become a way for me to explore new places, clear my mind, and challenge myself physically. This blog will be my way of sharing the hikes I’ve completed, along with updates on the new trails I discover. From peaceful walks in the woods to steep mountain climbs, I hope to inspire others to appreciate the joy of hiking, wherever they may be.
Sherpatrappa, Tromsø
A famous stone stairway trail leading up to the top of Fjellheisen, about 421 meters above sea level. It offers stunning views of Tromsø and the surrounding fjords, making it a popular, scenic hike.
Steinbøhytta, Tromsø
A peaceful cabin hike with an elevation of approximately 436 meters, surrounded by Tromsø's wilderness. The views from the cabin are breathtaking, providing a perfect spot for relaxation.
Kjølen, Tromsø
Standing at 790 meters, this hike rewards you with impressive views of Tromsø, the nearby fjords, and the surrounding peaks. It's a quieter trail, ideal for those seeking solitude.
Rødtinden, Tromsø
This peak reaches 470 meters and offers panoramic views of both the sea and mountains. The hike is challenging but worth it, especially for sunset views from the summit.
Buren, Tromsø
At 802 meters, Buren offers a moderate hike with a varied landscape. The summit presents fantastic views, making it a favorite among hikers who enjoy Tromsø's natural beauty.
Tromsdaltinden, Tromsø
Tromsø's most iconic peak, towering at 1,238 meters, this hike is both challenging and rewarding. The panoramic views from the summit cover the entire Tromsø region, making it a must-do for serious hikers.
Trolltunga, Odda
One of Norway's most famous hikes, Trolltunga, stands at an elevation of about 1,180 meters. The hike is challenging, spanning around 28 kilometers round-trip, but the reward is spectacular. The iconic rock formation juts out horizontally above Lake Ringedalsvatnet, offering stunning views of the fjords below. It’s a bucket-list adventure for any avid hiker, providing a sense of accomplishment and awe at nature’s grandeur.
Engenes, Norway
Engenes is a charming coastal village located on the island of Andøya, offering stunning views of the surrounding landscapes and the North Atlantic Ocean. The area is known for its rugged coastline, dramatic cliffs, and diverse hiking trails that cater to all skill levels. One popular hike takes you along the scenic shores, where you can experience the beauty of untouched nature and perhaps spot local wildlife like sea eagles and seals. Engenes is also a great spot for photography, especially during the midnight sun in summer and the Northern Lights in winter. Whether you seek adventure or tranquility, Engenes has something special for every hiker.
Sequoia & Kings Canyon National Parks, USA
Located in California’s Sierra Nevada mountains, Sequoia & Kings Canyon National Parks are home to giant sequoias, deep canyons, and towering peaks. Hiking through these parks offers breathtaking views, from the towering trees of the Giant Forest to the dramatic depths of Kings Canyon. Trails like the Mist Falls Trail and the challenging ascent to Mount Whitney (the tallest peak in the continental U.S.) make this a hiker's paradise.
