Phrasing research questions and conducting desktop and field research remain major challenges for students and professional in general. In any particular moment, we are bombarded by lots of facts and our brains process millions of stimuli. As a result, we laugh, feel saddened, agitated, or curious. A number of us discard those experiences too quickly without allowing the curiosity to take us to serious steps of inquisition to understand what happened. Even when we may want to do research, we stumble over the first few steps and get frustrated. Those steps include phrasing the “right”questions and obtaining the appropriate materials. Such challenges prevent most of us from finding valid answers to our questions.
The course has been designed to address some of those challenges.
Applied econometrics
University of Economics Ho Chi Minh City: 2017 - 2021
Main instructor
The course is aimed at the student who wishes to have a working knowledge of widely-used econometric techniques. This will be taught at an intermediate level. Good understanding of the material taught in the prerequisite courses for this class is essential for doing well in this course. This course emphasizes both the theoretical and the practical aspects of statistical analysis, focusing on techniques for estimating econometric models of various kinds and for conducting tests of hypotheses of interest to economists. The course will mainly deal with cross-sectional and panel data.
The models studied in this course have numerous applications in economics, finance, marketing, management and related areas. A feature of the course is the way examples and exercises are drawn from these different discipline areas to illustrate the usefulness and limitations of certain econometric/statistical techniques. Hands-on experience in applying these techniques is gained through the use of statistical solfwares (e.g. MS-Excel, R, Python, and Stata).
Advanced quantitative methods
University of Economics Ho Chi Minh City: 2020 - 2021
Main instructor
Buiding on the theoritical and analytical background in the previous courses, especially Apllied Econometrics, the linear regression model might be seen to be an inappropriate tool for addressing substantive research objectives in applied economics. Therefore, this course aims to provide students with advanced econometric techniques to conduct research in the field of real estate economics. The focus will be on the estimation of econometric models and the interpretation of estimation results. For each model, students will be introduced the uses, the implementation of the model using statistical software packages such as R and Stata, and the interpretation of the regression results.
